Kathmandu

Our local partner in Kathmandu is a married couple, who have a young daughter. They are bi-vocational (“tent-making”) and have up to recently (in 2009) worked as worship and youth pastor with Kathmandu Vineyard Church.

The couple has been blessed and released by that leadership, and are now helping a fellowship from their Gorkha home community that have started a church plant in Kathmandu. They also continue their contribution to the country’s youth movement by providing youth leadership training across local churches through an organization called the Himalaya Bible Study Academy.

Due to these relationships, we have inroad into three communities, the Kathmandu Vineyard, the Gorkha church plant in Kathmandu, and the youths from many Nepali churches.

Our partner’s vision for youths is seeing them bring the God’s heart of compassion wherever they go and in every capacity such as in their chosen field of work and profession. “Winning every area of the society and ultimately transforming the nation”. We do have a special and exciting opportunity to relate to and train youth leaders in these communities. Beside this, volunteers can help in a myriad of ways, for example, by fixing physical facilities in homes, offices and libraries, assisting in children homes and being part of medical teams. There will also be opportunities for micro-enterprise.

Volunteers on our short term team visits to Kathmandu will have an exciting time serving in the communities. At the same time they can enjoy the exceptional scenic setting of the Himalaya, and many of the historical and cultural interests of this place. We will also be blessing our local partner and the communities, who gain needed additional income from organizing these activities for us.

Trekking and river rafting are very popular. Mountain flight will take you close to Mount Everest and other peaks. You can also go on jungle safari, riding on elephant to see tigers, bears, rhino and other animals in their natural habitat.
